  SHOT PUT

There was only one thing to do.

As Spencer reached down for the shot put, I rugby tackled him to the ground.

Then I jumped on the ball.

  As I suspected, SUPERGLUE!!

I had an idea. All those weeks shining cricket balls …

  What next?

  HURDLES

It was soon clear that something was very wrong.

Needless to say, Spencer won the hurdles.

  THE RELAY

Of all the dumb ideas in the history of dumb ideas, this was the dumbest.

In fact, it was even dumber than that.

  Timothy ran the first leg.

He passed the baton to Zachary smoothly.

  Zachary increased the lead.

He passed the baton to Spencer smoothly.

  Spencer accelerated around the bend.

He was 60 metres in front!

  I started running.

  I put out my hand.

  I looked back.

He slapped the baton into my hand.

Unfortunately, I’d moved my hand by then.

  The baton hit the ground.

  I dived on it.

I grabbed it and scrambled to my feet.

I was still ahead but not by much.

I imagined I was being chased by a herd of wild buffalo …

I imagined I was being chased by a pride of angry lions …

  I imagined I was being chased by a T-rex.

  I could see the tape.

The other kid was gaining on me.

He was going to beat me!

There was only one thing to do.

Have you read my Rugby Diary …

  What about my Cricket Diary?

  Or my Soccer Diary?

Then there's my Taekwondo Diary …

And don't forget my Swimming Diary!
